Thousands of people are expected to take to Elder Park for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s largest event of the year, Santos Symphony Under the Stars on Saturday 25 February at 8pm.
The free annual event which is now well into its third decade regularly attracts over 15,000 people and has become one of South Australia’s much loved outdoor concerts.
Santos Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, David Knox said, “Our partnership with the ASO is one of our longest standing community partnerships. The Santos Symphony Under the Stars truly enriches the community through the talent, innovation and energy of the brilliant Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.”
The concert will be presented by ABC Classic FM’s Christopher Lawrence and feature conductor, Marc Taddei and one of Australia’s best-loved sopranos and regular guest on the ABC’s Spicks and Specks, Antoinette Halloran.
The program includes Dvořák’s Carnival Overture and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story as well as music from John Williams’ Star Wars saga. The concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture complete with a firework spectacular.
“I am delighted to be singing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra once again – and what better way is there to sing luscious Puccini arias and Broadway hits, than under the glorious stars on a beautiful outdoor stage. As a performer, these are the moments that I treasure. It is thrilling for me to sing such divine melodies with a world class orchestra and most importantly, with an open invitation for everyone to attend!” said Halloran.
Pack a picnic and BYO for an unforgettable night of popular classics and family entertainment. The Adelaide Youth Orchestra will perform prior to the concert at 6pm.
