Theatre – Next To Normal – The Opera Studio – 5K

There are no weak links in this show and it will rightfully draw audiences back for a second or third viewing. This is the finest musical theatre produced in Adelaide for a long time. 5K

Theatre – Land & Sea – Brink Productions – Queen’s Theatre – 4K

Those who can appreciate theatre as an experience rather than just an exercise in storytelling will reap the rewards on offer from this production. 4K

Theatre – Educating Rita – Bakehouse Theatre – 3K

This is a solid and pleasant performance of an interesting play, though it does not quite reach its potential. 3K

South Pacific – Arts Theatre – Til 19th May – 4.5K

You are not going to get a better amateur theatre company rendition of this or any similar musical than the Met’s South Pacific. Those attending who were almost universally there to trip out on that memory lane lapped it all up. 4.5K

Namatjira – Her Majesty’s – til 12 May – 3.5K

There is nothing in the razzle, dazzle line about Namatjira but the story is an interesting, moving and (sadly still) a contemporary one. Jamieson deserves far more attention than he gets and as truly Australian sagas, there are few better. 3.5K

Theatre – The Glass Menagerie – STCSA – Dunstan Playhouse to May 26th – 4.5K

The writing is superb, with eloquent observations of the world, clear and engaging characters and witty one-liners scattered throughout. Cook has created a well paced show and elicited beautifully nuanced performances from his four actors. 4.5K

RAW – Mousetrap For Adelaide – Oct at Playhouse

The Mousetrap will play a season in Adelaide as part of the Diamond Anniversary 2012 Australian Tour with a strictly limited season at The Playhouse, Adelaide Festival Centre from October 9 – 28. Tickets on sale May 3 – see post for details

RAW: Doubt – St Jude’s Players – 4K

The St Jude’s Players do an excellent job. Using a stage area divided up into three scene sets, director, Robert McCarthy has got his three main players’ performances spot on with their character depictions. 4K

RAW – The City – Bakehouse – 3.5K

For a taste of what we can look forward to at The Playhouse from Geordie Brookman , this captivating 80 minutes of The City is worth the effort. 3.5K
