RAW: Early Worx Presents Carly Churchill’s Plays – Sept 14-18 – Higher Ground

Early Worx and Higher Ground present two Carly Churchill plays – Seven Jewish Children and Not Not Not Not Not Enough Oxygen from Sept 14-18. See post for details.

RAW: Charles Sanders In Profile

Adelaide audiences with a keenness to support developing star talent ought to find the time to get behind Sanders’ Early Worx productions before this talent too moves on to greener pastures.

RAW: Harry Harlow Project – Space – Til 27th August

This is excellent theatre and well worth attention as well by any with an interest in psychology and scientific endeavour generally. 4K

RAW: STC’s Three Sisters – Anton Chekhov – Playhouse – 3K

Three Sisters – Great play, fine cast, pity about the staging and direction. 3K

RAW: Misery – Bakehouse Theatre Company – 4K – Til 6th August

Very likely to be independent theatre’s highlight of the year, so go see during this Misery’s last week. 4K

RAW: Speaking In Tongues – 4.5K

The potential for human folly, for the search for something beyond what is more than adequate is well explored in Andrew Bovell’s 1996 classic Speaking In Tongues now brilliantly revived and presented by the State Theatre Company. 4.5K

RAW: Innocence – Accidental Productions – 4K

While laced with moments that are harsh, sweet, funny, cruel, dark and light, Innocence is probably best enjoyed by committed theatregoers who will respond with enthusiasm to the play and the players’ performances.

RAW: The Wyrd Sisters – Bakehouse – Til 25th June – 3.5K

For a nice take on the rotten world we live in, with all our cunning vanities and other assorted failings, Wyrd Sisters makes for an enjoyable evening by a fine and (mostly) young cast. 3.5K

RAW: Cabaret Fringe Festival Gala – The Promethean – 1 June

The Cabaret Fringe Festival – the lesser known cousin of the international Cabaret Festival – high-kicked off to a grand start at The Prom on 1 June 2011. One of my favourite venues in Adelaide, the intimate Prom accommodated both distinguished guests and keen punters for a high energy display of the best of the June fest.

RAW: The Zoo Story – Space – Til 4th June – 4K

This is a simple play – one act, one lazing set and two players – but it conveys a myriad of meanings and issues that broach social class and taboos, the contented and safe pretences and hubris of the gainfully and well rewarded employed the those who struggle day by day.
