RAW: Carclew’s Off The Couch 2012 – Details

Carclew Youth Arts is on the hunt for young musicians, bands and emerging event coordinators aged 12-26 to take part in Off the Couch 2012.

Run annually for the past 16 years, Off the Couch is a series of youth delivered live music events with a focus on independent and unsigned artists. It’s helped participants forge successful music careers locally and interstate.

Off the Couch enables musicians to start building a profile for themselves in the highly competitive world of popular music,” said Off the Couch coordinator Tara Lynch.

The 2012 series will see the exciting addition of ‘headliner bands’ to act as informal mentors to emerging bands and musicians. “I can’t drop names yet but expect some well known SA acts to feature in the gig line-ups,” said Tara.

Off the Couch live music events successfully showcase upcoming local talent to large audiences. “The 2011 Off the Couch program attracted record participant numbers and the six events drew the strongest crowds in the program’s history,” Tara added.

But it’s not just about musicians. Off the Couch events are programmed and delivered by a team of young and emerging event coordinators who participate in an intensive development and training program.

Under the guidance of industry professionals, Off the Couch team members gain hands-on experience in publicity and promotions, marketing, programming, production and delivery.

Off the Couch is the ideal platform for young artists and event coordinators to start establishing professional connections that are crucial in forging a career in the music industry,” said Tara.

Since 1995 Off the Couch has provided performance and development opportunities for 2,500 young and emerging musicians and event coordinators, reaching a total audience of more than 65,000 live music enthusiasts.
