SALA – Plastic Fantastic – 28 July – 2 Sept – Goolwa

Plastic in all its forms produces enormous amounts of waste from use in our every day lives. Annabelle Collett uses recycled ‘trash’ to fashion a vast array of artworks from all types of plastics for this exhibition. See post for details

South Australia Illustrated – Colonial Painting in the Land of Promise – AGSA – Til 5 August

For lovers of this style of art, especially those with a deep passion for the history of this State, South Australia Illustrated is a couple of hundred square metres of paradise.

Cabaret Festival – Brushes with Keys – Banquet Room – 4.5K

The show hit peak form in the last twenty minutes when friends, singer Ursula White and guitarist Peter Grimwood, joined pianist and painter on stage with the finale also including Cabaret director, Kate Ceberano, complete with Salvador Dali moustache, belting out I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends, Joe Cocker style. 4.5K

Visual and Performing Arts – ChoreoCraft Exhibition – Fest Centre Foyer

The Festival Theatre Foyer will play host to an exhibit of material from a new form of dance composition in the ChoreoCraft Exhibition, presented by Adelaide Festival Centre’s Performing Arts Collection from 25 – 30 May.

Namatjira – The Exhibition – Artspace – Til 27 May – 3K

The Hermannsburg School that promoted the use of water colours of outback scenes by indigenous painters, of which Albert Namatjira is the most famous exponent but with which the Namatjira name remains actively synonymous is really the focus and then particularly its current exponents.

RAW – Sidney Nolan – The Gallipoli Series – Samstag Art Museum Til 1 June – 4.5K

Though not well known, this is a significant collection from an artist which beyond the AGSA we don’t see much new of in Adelaide. War may not one’s favourite topic but the brilliance of this artist to take you there in so many ways is astounding and most rewarding. 4.5K

RAW – A4 By Four By Four – The Reading Room Til 3 May

Four young Adelaide photographers are exhibiting four of their images, each restricted to A4 size. The four are Genevieve Brandenburg, Elle Dawson-Scott, Meg Cowell and Stephanie Fuller and their approaches are as varied as their names.

FRINGE – Allegoria Sacra – AES+F – Art Gallery – 4.5K

Compared with the two previous (aforementioned) works, not much new in terms of imagery or technology happens here – the tens of thousands of photographs used to comprise the moving images we see are as big and bold and as rich with metaphor as they are imagination as the previous works. 4.5K

Visual Art – Picasso – Masterpieces from the Musee National Picasso – AGNSW – Til 25th March

The Masterpieces collection, while possessing few of the great man’s most famous works, does offer the more casual viewer a unique opportunity to see Picasso’s work across a lifetime and not in a ‘made of television’ style, with all its brilliances, excesses and passions on view to enrich our perceptions of one of the 20th century’s greatest people.
